Transportation for Seniors and the Disabled

What is Get About?

  • A special service providing transportation for the elderly and disabled persons living in the four cities of Claremont, La Verne, Pomona, and San Dimas.

    • Get About is a Door-to-Door service. Get About drivers can usually come to your door, but not in all cases. The drivers cannot provide door to door service if the driver determines it is unsafe. Drivers must maintain visual contact with vehicles and be able to legally park and secure them.  Sometimes riders need Get About to make an adjustment to serve them, like changing a pick up location. The Get About policy requests for reasonable modifications is available on our website. For service concerns or if a reasonable modifications to the service is needed, call Pomona Valley Transportation Authority (909) 596-7664

    • Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available.

    • Get About service is provided using vans, minivans and cabs.  Because of limitations both in terms of funding and vehicle availability, Get About cannot accept requests for specific type of vehicles (for example cabs or minivans).

  • Because Get About is a shared ride transportation service for many, it cannot offer direct rides, as direct trips would delay service to other riders.

Reservations should be made at least one day or up to seven days in advance of your requested trip. All ride reservations are subject to availability. Due to increased ridership and popularity of certain time slots, (weekdays, 8 - 10 am & 12 - 2 pm) it may not always be possible to accommodate the exact time you are requesting. We recommend planning your outings and scheduling your appointments outside of this time range or booking your ride as far in advance as possible to ensure your preferred time. Our agents will offer the first available time slot closest to your requested time. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest and Mondays and Fridays the least busy. If no available time slots suit you, our agents provide you with any other service options.  To make a reservation, call the Get About operator at 596-5964, hearing impaired individuals can initiate a call by dialing 711 and informing the agent the number they are calling. This request can be either via voice or TTY device. The agent will then begin the relay of information from voice to TTY or from TTY to voice depending on the direction of the call. California relay can also be used by those who have speech difficulty and cannot communicate verbally over the phone

and have the following information ready:

    • Your name
    • The address where you'd like to be picked up
    • The address where you are going, and the time you want to be there.

If you are in a wheelchair or use mobility aids, please tell the operator.

    When to be ready?

The operator can assist you in scheduling your pick up so that you will arrive at your destination on time.  You will be given an estimated time for pickup.  The vehicle should arrive within 15 minutes of your scheduled pick up time.  For example if you request a 10:00 a.m. pick up you will be given a 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. reservation.  Please be ready a little ahead of time.

Remember that Get About is a shared ride service.  We do not offer direct trips.
